Stuart Vokes
Owen and Vokes, Brisbane

Owen and Vokes (est. 2003) is a Brisbane architectural practice undertaking private house commissions, furniture design, and small commercial and institutional commissions. The practice is directed by founding partners Paul Owen and Stuart Vokes and long-term collaborator Aaron Peters.

The practice seeks appropriateness rather than novelty, with each work taking the form of a subtle innovation incrementally building upon a lineage of works. Completed projects are custodians of ideas drawn from a sustained observation of traditions, appropriate exemplars, and human occupation.

Owen and Vokes houses have been published nationally and overseas and recently included in the new books, 21ST Century Houses Downunder published by Images Publishing, and Casas Patio published by Parramon Ediciones. The practice was also included in Place Makers: Contemporary Queensland Architects, an exhibition of Queensland architecture shown at the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane 2008. In 2005 the practice received the RAIA Robin Dods award for their Newmarket House.
