Rachel Neeson
Neeson Murcutt, Sydney

Neeson Murcutt Architects was formed in 2004, combining the independent practices of Rachel Neeson and her late husband Nicholas Murcutt. Based in Sydney, the practice continues to operate in urban, suburban, rural and outback settings across Australia. We have deliberately pursued a range of project types from bespoke houses to housing prototypes and public commissions. Our architecture aims to be both engaging and memorable. The atmospheres we evoke are informed by settings that are not bound by space or time. We look to the pragmatic particularities of each project – its program, budget, physical and cultural contexts – to identify the driving questions to which our architecture will respond. We delight in the unexpectedness that often results in the search for the most direct solution, and seek to integrate artful experimentation with professional logic. The office brings a public mindedness to our work with each project considered within its broader environment – its impact on public domain, sustainability, culture and landscape. We work with flexible design strategies in a process that is iterative and open to the inputs and feedback from clients, consultants and collaborators.
